Fractal dimensions cannot be determined analytically for all fractals i.e. natural objects. However, compass dimension and box dimension are appropriate estimators for the Hausdorff-Besicovitch dimension. Especially the box dimension can be easily determined if the structure is stored as a binary image. The box counting and related algorithms (see [4] are suitable procedures to be implemented in an image processor like IDOLON [5].
