1 Introduction

Fractal dimensions have recently gained importance in image processing and have proven their usefulness [2]. There are several notions of fractal dimension [3] and different estimators for structures stored in digitized images like the box dimension, the 2D variation dimension and the triangular prism area dimension [2][3].

The following article describes the the image processor IDOLON. It performs fractal image analysis on digitized images both from the entire image and from selected regions.

The parameter estimates can be taken to supply classification problems e.g. from satellite images.
