IDOLON is an image processing software tool for fractal analysis of digitized images. It performs calculation of fractal dimensions with different algorithms both from the entire image and from selected regions. The program is written in C. Binary versions are available for IBM RS/6000 on AIX 4.0. You can also get the source code. IDOLON was sponsored by IBM Germany.

The following electronic articles give brief overviews of fractal theory, dimension analysis and IDOLON's features.

Fractals and Dimensions (Kraft R.)
Estimating the Fractal Dimensions of Digitized Images (Kraft R., Kauer J.)
IDOLON - Fractal Image Analysis (Kraft R., Kauer J., Meier N.)

The IDOLON team also provides an image collection of artificial fractals, natural fractals, test images and some diagrams for dimension analysis.
